The Thomas Jefferson Education and Welcome Center board invites area residents who decorate their homes with exterior holiday lights to share the Christmas spirit with those who may not routinely travel their street or road.
Residents who anticipate having light displays are asked to call the Jefferson Area Chamber office at 515-386-2155 before Nov. 15. The information will be put on a map showing the all the residences submitted.
The maps will be available at the Chamber office at the Welcome Center, at Greene County businesses and local libraries beginning Nov. 30. Residents whose home is on the map are requested to have their lights on from 5:30 to 9 pm each night. Interior home visits are not part of this project.
Residents can also nominate a neighbor or relative who has a colorful lighting display. Thomas Jefferson board members will contact them for permission to include their displays on the map.
This is not a contest and there are no prizes. “Rather it is an opportunity to publicly display to Greene County residents that you want to celebrate Christmas,” a spokesperson said.
